What is Wedding Insurance?
Wedding insurance is available for weddings and civil partnerships. It is insurance that covers the investments made for a wedding day. Weddings are very expensive as there are so many costs to be covered today. Weddings need as a bare minimum flowers, wedding clothes such as the grooms outfit, bridesmaid dresses and a gown. Reception locations, food for guests, the wedding cake, entertainment and honeymoons are another consideration. While many people take out travel insurance for the honeymoon insurance on other costs are neglected.
Wedding insurance is designed to protect your investment on other wedding expenses. The insurance covers what you have spent on your wedding in the event that there are damages, losses or the cancellation of the wedding itself.

How much does Wedding Insurance cost?
Wedding insurance prices start from fairly low premiums which are the equivalent of one or two months house insurance and they cover a wide range of events. Like any insurance there are variations on what wedding insurance will cover so it is always a good idea to read and check the policy first. You can also compile a checklist of what you would like insured and get quotations online to give you a rough idea of how much you would be paying out.
Most insurance companies have much of their information online and often list in bullet points exactly what they cover so you get a quick picture of what is covered. It is worth looking into this as it can benefit in the event of the unexpected. It is more likely that the unexpected will happen on a wedding day because everything needs to come together for just one particular day so it is worth the relatively small one off payment or short term cover for peace of mind.
What does Wedding Insurance cover?
Wedding insurance covers a variety of events although insurance tends to vary. Most policies will cover the venue if it is unable to hold the wedding or reception and you are unable to recover costs. They will also pay for a dress or dress hire charges if the wedding dress is lost stolen or damaged.
Insurance can also cover against damage done setting up and preparing or at the reception to presents, the rings, wedding cake and flowers. This is often a policy with a time stipulation on it covering up to a short period before and after the reception and will sometimes include coverage for cash presents and vouchers.
Other problems that reveal themselves post wedding include missing photographs, cars, supplier bankruptcy, Marquee damage and guest injury. These are often quite unexpected but costly events. Photograph loss can be covered by a replacement photographer if the one hired is unable to keep the appointment or new sets of photos can be reproduced if the prints do not come out properly.
Similarly if the wedding cars do not turn up then a replacement limousine company might be used by an insurer. They might have a deal with a company which means that your insurer may rectify problems like this far more quickly than you can. Cars can break down or get stuck in traffic and an insurer can cover your car costs and sometimes provide alternative transport. It might also cover costs if the suppliers of your car go bankrupt.
Insurance can also cover the costs of bankruptcy in the case of other suppliers such as your baker or florist. Wedding insurance also covers items particular to some but not all weddings such as Marquees. These should be insured against damage as you cannot control the weather or indeed some guest’s accidents and the cost of Marquee repair is usually thousands of pounds.
Insurance could also cover guest injuries such as trips and falls in the event that you are liable. If you are liable you could be paying thousands and face bankruptcy without insurance.
It is beneficial to have wedding insurance as the average wedding cost is around £20,000 and after paying for this most couples do not have extra cash going spare in the event of something going wrong. Wedding insurance is very reasonable but it is important to get it well in advance of the wedding as most insurers will not accept it less than a fortnight before the wedding. However, you can get it in advance of this time and add items to be covered as and when you need to.
While no-one wants their wedding to be ruined by any event there are some things that can’t be anticipated. Indeed should you have to cancel the whole wedding in the event of illness, it would take forever to save up costs that an insurance could easily cover.
